Okay, I get it. That last post about staying on or off Disney property was a cliffhanger.
I can fix that.
This post is about what I prefer. (The last one was trying to show some pros and cons, knowing everyone has different budgets, etc.)
As someone over 60, who is also living with post-covid fatigue and brain fog, my preferences are not for the average human. Also, we were lucky to get an annual pass right before Disney stopped selling them. We renewed again for this year.
We are also DVC (Disney Vacation Club) members.
The combination of having an annual pass and being part of DVC has allowed us quite a bit of flexibility.
For example, this past December we booked a stay at the Galactic Starcruiser. (I’ve mentioned it in previous posts. It’s Disney’s 2-day immersive Star Wars experience full of activity and amazing food. I helped save Chewbacca…..) Knowing how tiring it would be, we booked a couple of days at Animal Kingdom Lodge (AKL) in a DVC studio before the Starcruiser. We also booked a one-bedroom value villa for a couple of days afterward.
It was kind of like a Star Wars sandwich, I suppose!
Being on property makes it easy for me to head out to the parks when I have the energy and head back when I don’t.
Staying in a studio isn’t as comfortable as a one-bedroom (value or regular). The only sitting options are at a small table, on the deck or on the bed.
My wonky hip preferred the one-bedroom. The couch was nice and comfy. Plus, a one-bedroom has a fairly full-sized kitchen, while a studio only has a microwave, mini fridge, sink and coffee pot.
Thanks to delivery services like Instacart, we can cook some of our meals in the room instead of spending lots of money in the parks. Plus, if we end our day in the park with a meal, we have options for storing and reheating them! Bonus!
Occasionally we get invited to stay off-property as a guest in a house in Kissimmee. Talk about comfortable! (Comfy couches, a private lanai with a screened-in pool, and more.) It’s lovely to be able to truly relax when we’re not in the parks. We look at those trips as bonus Disney time during the years we have annual passes. It truly is a different sort of trip and not a full Disney experience.
So, for a true Disney World trip I prefer being on property. If I am lucky to also have an off-property trip, of course, I will jump at that opportunity, too.
Am I planning another WDW trip?
Always.
