One of our kids recently asked me:
“When does one feel like they have achieved adult status?”
My response?
I’ll let you know when I get there!
For me, even at sixty, growing older does not mean totally growing up. I still love to play on the floor with my grandchildren, even if it’s harder to get back up. I find a balance between my responsibilities and having fun.
I laugh.
A lot.
I have dragons (and llamas) in every room in the house.
I go to Disney World as often as possible.
I’ll have been to the (sadly closing) Galactic Starcruiser twice before my next birthday.
Did I mention I laugh? A lot?
Oh, and don’t forget board games and video games! I play on line by myself and online and in person with other family members.
I remember when my kids were teenagers and a friend of mine from my high school days was visiting. She said she thought I was such a grown up and I swear the teen in the room snorted in response.
Snorted!
She was right. No, not the friend, the daughter was right. I’m pretty sure if someone said that in front of her now, she’d still snort!
I honestly believe that being young at heart is what makes me enjoy aging. My muscles may ache, and my joints may creak. My brain may fog up from time to time. But the things that bring me joy will always outrank the challenges and inspire me to do whatever it takes to enjoy life.
Snort if you will. I’ll be on the floor playing Itsy Bitsy Spider with my 1-year-old granddaughter or playing “cafe” with my 7-year-old grandson.
I hope this inspires you to play more!
