After our first “voyage” on the Halcyon, in December of ’22. My husband and I talked about going again in 5 years…or 3…or 2.
We went back two weeks ago.
As some of you may know, Disney decided in May to close the Starcruiser at the end of September. At close it will only have been running about 1.5 years. To say we were heartbroken at the idea of the beloved “ship” being mothballed is an understatement. Putting the why of that into words wasn’t easy, but we looked at each other and agreed we were lucky to have been able to go once.
It didn’t take long before one of us said “maybe we should….”
Around the same time, a dear friend of ours from our first “voyage” started messaging us. Going back was on their mind, too.
Before long we were comparing availability dates in anticipation of bookings opening back up for the general public. They had been closed for those folks already booked after September so they could make alternative plans.
It took some doing to get our booking. The lines were jammed. Calls were rerouted to regular Disney booking agents who were not able to book the Starcruiser. Instead, they suggested trying back later.
But as the day wore on, we watched dates disappear from the availability calendar. At that point, we were in full-on nerd alert! How could we not go one more time?
Now before you start with cost, etc., just stop. We found a way to make it happen without causing hardship…or even a hint of hardship. Let’s leave it at that.
My husband finally got through while I was in a physical therapy session. He coordinated with the Starcruiser staff and our friends in California and managed to get 2 of the last 3 cabins on the last availability date on our list.
It was one week away.
We did it! We found a way and spent a wonderful time with our friends. I will share those stories separately because they include spoilers (and spoiler alerts).
Why am I sharing this? Because we are at a point in our lives where we jump at the chance to do something we dream about as long as it’s within our means.
I mean, you’re not going to find me on one of those amazing around the world jet vacations anytime soon.
But a trip to the stars. That we could do.
Hold on to those dreams!
