Keeping the Magic Alive

No, this isn’t a relationship post.

Or is it? I’ll let you decide that. That’s what the comment section is for.

As for me, I firmly believe in Magic. I don’t mean the “abracadabra” type, but the Magic of everyday life.

I also believe in the Magic of extraordinary day life. Let’s focus on that for a minute. You see, the Llama got a little down for the past few months. Brain Fog took up residence during a very stressful time, and it decided it was very comfortable right where it was. Oh, I did the usual things in my attempts to kick it back “out to sea,” but it was stubborn and dug in its foggy heels. It even invited its best friend, “chronic fatigue,” over for tea.

Of course, you can guess what happened. Brain Fog totally forgot the tea. Luckily, Fatigue isn’t a big fan of tea. It prefers coffee. More specifically, it prefers the Nantucket pods from that famous green coffee company.

Brain Fog also makes my thoughts take left turns, in case you haven’t figured it out by now.

Now where was I?

Ah, yes…I was feeling a little down. It does get frustrating when Brain Fog stays for an extended visit. It’s hard to find words, it causes me to stutter, it messes up my typing, and you can only imagine what it does to my writing skills. Yep, they take a vacation.

And this, Dear Reader, is why you’ve not heard much from me lately.

And no, I don’t consider Brain Fog or Chronic Fatigue extraordinary. I won’t give them any credit for that.

It’s what happened *during” the heavy fog.

You see, one foggy day, I had plans to host our granddaughter’s second birthday party.

It was also her second 2nd birthday party, the first having been held weeks before with other family members.

And there’s that left turn again! Where was I?

Ah, yes, one foggy day.

That evening, I also planned to attend “The Princess Bride: An Inconceivable Evening with Cary Elwes.” I had been looking forward to it for months! I had purchased VIP tickets for myself and two friends I’ve known since high school. A few weeks later, another high school friend purchased her ticket. So, the four of us were to attend this event, which was held in the only “family” theater available when I was in single digits. There was something just a little magical to be “grown-ups” in the old kid’s theater.

Luckily, it’s been renovated. It’s quite lovely, and the bathrooms are so cool!

Trust me on that last one.

Days before, a little monkey wrench was thrown into my plans. The VIP meet and greet was at 4, not after the event. The birthday party started at noon, and prep for the party started even earlier.

Now, for most people, this would be simple: just go and have fun. But Brain Fog and Chronic Fatigue pressed the panic button. Would I have enough energy to keep going all day?

The party went beautifully, highlighted by the moment my granddaughter climbed up in my lap and started falling asleep to my singing the ABCs to her.

And that’s when the Magic showed up.

Beyond the fatigue and deep within the fog, I was still there. I still held the Magic to bring comfort to my son’s little one.

And Magic stayed through the rest of the day.

It showed up when the four of us got in line to meet Cary Elwes. We laughed and chatted, making the wait fly by.

It showed up when I looked up to see one of my children’s dearest friends from school. “Mama Llama!” she called out before I hugged her.

It showed up when we had our few moments with an actor who had already left an indelible impression on me over the years. Honestly, I was worried that it would be ordinary, but it was far from it. He was totally in character as a fun and gracious host. He laughed with us before we posed for a photo with him.

At one point, Cary Elwes held my hands and looked me in the eyes.

I wasn’t expecting that.

He has beautiful eyes.

I may have channeled an 1800’s miss and said, “Oh my!”

Magic.

He was keeping the Magic alive.

And so was I.

And now, Dear Reader, it’s your turn. Find your Magic and enjoy the day.
