Day 2 – Resetting the Llama Week: The Calm Before the Storm

I knew today would be better. After over 24 hours of travel, my husband is safe and sound at his destination.

I’ve set myself up for a quiet weekend of self-care and decluttering. So far, so good! I have comfort food in the crockpot, plenty of healthy snacks (and one or two not-so-healthy like that Napoleon in my photo), a great book to read, movies lined up, and someone set to plow my driveway. I even bought moisturizing socks to pamper my winter-dry Llama feet!

You see, I knew I had a choice regarding my husband’s travel this week. If you read yesterday’s post, you saw that I was sad. But I did not let it own me. I acknowledged it and then set in to do some of the things I planned for myself while he was away.

First and foremost, I had breakfast with my best friend after I dropped my husband off for his journey. Everything feels right with the world when I spend time with her. We chatted over coffee and Monte Cristo’s topped with real maple syrup. It was the perfect start to my week.

Next, I went to the grocery store. I stocked up on food that would make me happy and hopefully not increase my waistline.

I’m very food-oriented. Trying new foods feels like an adventure to me, and I hope that never changes. Flavors, textures, aromas wafting on the breeze…

Oh, shoot, where was I?

Ah, yes…

I settled into that afternoon by watching a few movies and playing computer games. Those are comfort foods for my brain.

Am I lonely? No. I have plenty of people to reach out to and have heard from a few as well. My husband has messaged me a few times, thanking me for getting snacks, hand sanitizer, and mosquito wipes for him to pack. Even my 83-year-old mom texted me to make sure I was set for dinner and have someone to plow my driveway.

The snow is starting to fall now. I wonder how much we’ll get when this storm is over.

I’ll fill you in tomorrow.

Llivin’ La Vida Llama, one snowflake at a time.
