As I mentioned in my last blog (Star Cruising, Part 1), we went on a “voyage” on Disney’s Galactic Starcruiser recently. Without giving away any spoilers, I’d like to share what it was like being one of the “seniors” on the cruise.
It didn’t matter.
The age range was from approximately 7 to someone that seemed a bit older than me. It still didn’t matter. The creators, cast and crew did such an amazing job that people of all ages enjoyed themselves and had plenty of assignments to keep them busy.
My husband and I decided to create characters and stay in character and “in universe” the entire time.
His character was Esk Forn. If you know Aurebesh, you’ll recognize those are his first two initials. If you don’t know Aurebesh, don’t worry, you’re not alone…. but it’s a cool alternate alphabet to ours. Think of those old decoder rings we knew as kids. As I remember it, he was a Vice President of a “special acquisitions” company. He can explain it in more detail. In my eyes, it was simple.
He was a smuggler.
My character, Llama, had lost her memory and was on the Starcruiser to rest and recuperate after being found by her husband in an infirmary on Denon, their home planet. She also had been told, while at the infirmary, that she might find someone that would help her regain her memories.
Why did I build my character like this? Well, as someone who just turned 60 and who has been dealing with post-covid brain fog and fatigue, I created a character that would “fit” if I got a little foggy or fatigue-y.
It worked for me, and it got the attention of the ship’s Cruise Director and one of the Saja on board!
Did my character know he was my husband? Well, as I told the Cruise Director: “that’s what he told me.”
Did my character trust him? Well, the Cruise Director told me she was going to “keep an eye on him.”
Did I have fun? Oh yes.
Is there more to tell? Most definitely!
Dream on,
Llama
