Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays.

Sure, the cynical can say it’s commercialized. They can wax poetic about saving trees by not buying cards or focusing on whatever atrocious thing they can share with others in an attempt to rain on the parades of those of us who love the holiday.

If you are one of those people or some semblance thereof, that’s also totally fine with me. You do you.

I’ll bring an umbrella.

You see, I am, and always have been, a romantic.

As a single parent for many years, I bought myself an inexpensive bouquet every Valentine’s Day.  (or a bag of M&Ms, depending on my budget)

One year, as a married parent and step-parent, I realized that three of our kids (ranging from teens to twenties) didn’t have a Valentine. So, I arranged an afternoon of pedicures, movies, and junk food.

Where am I going with this? I truly believe we have a choice in almost everything we do. As for me, I choose to celebrate Valentine’s Day (and really most days) by doing things that make me happy. That I am lucky to have someone in my life to share the holiday is a gift that I happily share with him.

You should see the Wookie blanket I gave him this year. (but that’s a story for another time)

Happy Valentine’s Day, dear reader. Go do something kind for yourself.
