I love those moments when wishes are granted when I haven’t actually made a wish.
If you read yesterday’s post, you know it was a rough day. I felt pretty beat up after someone in a customer service role was rude and condescending about a long-standing situation.
But this post is not about that. It’s about what followed.
I tend to see the positive in most situations, but by the time I got to BJs to pick up an order, I was searching for my silver linings.
I hadn’t found any yet.
I love shopping online at BJ’s. I started curbside pickup during the pandemic and rarely go to the store now. It’s so easy! I pull into one of their numbered spots, open my app, and follow the prompts to let them know where I am—only this time, the prompts were different.
The app was saying to go to my BJs store or to click a link if I’m “in” a BJs store.
But I was there!
And I was outside.
So, I walked over to the BJ’s employee who was loading up another popped-open trunk belonging to yet another person with graying hair and asked if they were having issues with their app.
I received a blank stare before the poor lad said, “I don’t think so.”
But, the lovely gray-haired owner of the popped-open trunk said, “Mine worked! Let me show you.”
She pointed to that link on my phone that said to click if I was in a BJs store. I looked at her, “But I’m outside.” She just smiled that kindly smile that only a caring person could do and said to click it anyway.
It worked!
Felled by one of my favorite things in the world: words! Had it said to click if I was “at” a BJs store instead of “in” one, I wouldn’t be standing in a parking lot feeling a tad sheepish.
But, sheepish I was, and I finished checking in.
A few minutes later, while I was seated in my car, reading a book (because that’s what Llama does when she’s waiting), I heard a light tap on the passenger-side window. I looked up to see that same kind smile.
I got out of the car and chatted with her for a few moments before I really took a good look at her. She had wisps of blue in her silver hair.
Which I immediately, happily blurted out. So, we chatted about pretty hair colors as I noticed the wisps of purples and pinks.
We didn’t exchange names but simply waved goodbye. I thanked her for being so nice and went back to my car, my smile back where it belonged.
I’m sure she is a fairy godmother. The wisps of colors in her hair must prove it! Her kindness is another sure sign.
It was a reminder that I hadn’t put my fairy godmother colors in my hair in a long time. Perhaps, with all the stress of the past few months, I started to forget who I am.
And before you ask, yes, I will be adding my wisps of purples and blues this week.
Right where they belong.
