Jerky Germ Season

When I was a child, visiting my grandparents, breakfast included my grandmother setting out their daily pills. I didn’t think much of it then.

Oh, but now I do!

Mind you, my “pills” are vitamins and supplements…all except one newcomer to the mix: a low-dose diuretic. (A side effect of diuretics, in case you weren’t aware, is the need to “pass water” more frequently)

Yes, I know that if I cut out the coffee cake and increased my veggies on top of my daily exercise, my weight and blood pressure would (hopefully) come down, and that diuretic would leave the mix.

But that is not today.

Today, I also have some of those dreaded winter germs.

I call those germs the “jerks.” It’s not just because I feel like I’m jerking my body around every time I cough, either.

They’re mean, and they are not welcome.

So, my daily mix now includes an antibiotic (taken with lots of water twice a day) and an expectorant (taken twice a day with lots of water.)

Water.

While also taking a diuretic…which requires lots of water.

Coughing…and water; lots and lots of water.

I tried to describe my predicament to my doctor the other day…as I sat there with my legs crossed, squirming on the examination table, trying to suppress a cough and hoping she’d finish so I could scoot down the hall and hope the restroom wasn’t occupied!

For a brief moment, I even considered setting up my computer in my bathroom until the jerky germs vacated my body.

Then it hit me.

This is keeping me from being sedentary, and I’m getting my steps in!

Until next time!
